Winter is coming…so it's time for a skincare switch up

 

With winter just around the corner, a new skincare routine is needed, which means you get to treat yourself to some new cold-weather-friendly products! While a summer skincare routine should focus on excess oil prevention and extra sun protection, a fall and winter skincare routine should prioritize hydration, especially for those prone to dry skin. 

Here's how you can keep your skin feeling fresh and healthy during the winter season: 

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! 

Did we mention hydrate? Before you click 'add to cart', make sure your new skincare products contain hydrating properties and ingredients that can help boost your skin's moisture. The cold weather can quickly dry out your skin during the winter, so prioritizing hydration is essential. Even if you're an oily skin type, sometimes the harsh breeze can still affect your skin's overall health. Switch out light moisturizers for a richer formula  

While a gel formulated moisturizer may have worked for the summer season, your skin will need some extra protection to help combat dryness in the winter months. Switch out your light moisturizer for something richer and cream-based. If you have oily skin and are prone to breakouts, look for lotions that are non-comedogenic or even oil-free.

 

Avoid cleansers and moisturizers with drying ingredients 

Instead of using cleansers and moisturizers that contain active ingredients, like Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, or Vitamin C, switch them out for a gentler formula for the winter. Active ingredients can dry out skin, which can be a literal pain if you live in an area with a colder climate. But, if you suffer from skin issues such as redness, acne, and acne scarring, you can still use active ingredients to make sure your skin care needs are met. After using a gentle cleanser, apply a separate treatment to the affected areas and follow up with a thick moisturizer.  

 

Keep wearing your SPF 

SPF isn't just a summer fling – it's your all-year, ride or die, skincare bestie. Every professional skincare expert and dermatologist will tell you that a good winter skincare routine will still include an SPF 30. Although the sun may not be as intense, there are still levels of UVA rays, so it's important to make sure your skin is properly protected. Plus - if you live in an area with heavy snowfall, the sun's rays can still reflect off the white snow and cause sunburn. 

 

Just because your summer vacay is ending doesn't mean there isn't a reason to be excited for fall and winter, especially if you're a skincare junkie (like us…).
